Alabama Telco Credit Union Sponsors May 22nd Luncheon

Herb Winches, CBS 42 Sports Director, to be guest speaker

Alabama Telco Credit Union will sponsor this months Chamber luncheon which will be held on May 22, the fourth Thursday in May due to the Regions Charity Golf Classic. CBS 42 Sports Director, Herb Winches, will be the guest speaker.

Herb is a native of Louisville, Kentucky where he attended DeSales High School. He earned a football scholarship to Jacksonville State University and became a top running back. During his senior year, Herb helped lead Jacksonville State to its only undefeated team in school history at 11-0.

After graduation, Herb went to work at WHNT-TV in Huntsville and, in 1976, moved to Birmingham as Sports Director at WBRC-TV. He spent 14 years in local television and was named Associated Press Sportscaster of the Year 5 times during his tenure. He also pioneered High School football coverage in Alabama. In addition to television, Winches has extensive experience in radio and founded WJOX all-sports station in 1992.

Herbs career spans over 30 years in the Birmingham television and radio market and he now serves as the sports anchor on CBS 42 News at 10pm. Married to Dr. Betty Winches, Herb and his wife have two children and make their home in Hoover, Alabama.

Please make your reservations no later than Monday, May 19, by calling 988-5672, or emailing Susie Collins at scollins@hooverchamber.org. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m., with the program starting at noon. The luncheon is $15, payable at the door. Payment may be made by cash, check, or major credit card.
