The Ross Bridge Difference
Rising out of the pines in what used to be a rural no-man's land in southern Jefferson County is a new development called Ross Bridge. The area draws its name from James Taylor Ross, a Carolinian who came to Alabama in 1858 to settle in the Oxmoor Valley. During the Civil War, Ross allowed Rebel forces to build a railway supply line through his land. The construction included a stone bridge built across Ross Creek - thus the name
Ross Bridge.
The showpiece of the Ross Bridge development is the Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa. When it opened in August 2005, Hoover truly became a destination. Situated on Alabama's famed Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, the resort features upscale accommodations, fine dining, a luxury spa and the ultimate golfing experience.
With its 20,000 square feet of ballroom space and immense poolside terrace, the resort is also becoming known as the premier spot for weddings, parties, meetings and other events. Banquet seating is available for groups of 25 to 600.
The $75 million resort and golf course, like other Robert Trent Jones facilities, are investments of the Retirement Systems of Alabama. The hotel is one of 130 Renaissance properties worldwide, part of the Marriott family of hotels and resorts. It combines the chain's trademark whimsical, hip and savvy style with a local flair.
The lobby lounge, J.T.'s, is named for Mr. Ross. The name of the restaurant, Brock's, pays homage to nearby Brock's Gap. The three luxury suites have been dubbed The Vulcan Suite, The Cahaba Suite and The Sloss Suite. In every room hangs a picture of Birmingham's famous Vulcan statue.
Designed for tournament play, the golf course sprawls across 330 acres, making it one of the longest courses in the world. With five different tee lengths, the course is playable at any skill level.
But golf is not the only "game" at Ross Bridge. A 12,000 square foot spa offers the total spa experience with relaxing massages, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, manicures, pedicures and facial treatments. There's also a full service salon, sauna and steam bath.

Living at Ross Bridge
Tucked into the rolling countryside near the Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa are the residential neighborhoods of Ross Bridge. The first residents moved in during the fall of 2005 and since then, many others have followed. As of Spring 2006, about 100 families were living at Ross Bridge and enjoying the peaceful sense of belonging that the development is intended to foster. Housing choices range from value-priced family homes to luxury homes. Neighborhood amenities include parks, common spaces and spectacular views of Oxmoor Valley. Home plans are carefully selected and approved in order to maintain the overall look and quality of each neighborhood.
Further plans call for a town center with basic goods and services such as grocery stores, restaurants, childcare, banks, coffee shops and dry cleaning. The idea of office space at Ross Bridge is also attracting interest. The architecture of the town center will incorporate brick and earth tones in a traditional look.
