As with
any volunteer organization, whether it be a PTA, church, civic club,
environment group, or yes, even a chamber of commerce, it is the volunteers
that make it or break it. With a small staff, but literally hundreds
of volunteers, the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce has grown from its orginal
forty members in 1978 to over 1,100 members today.
With volunteer groups including an Economic Development Committee, Board
of Directors, Golf Tournament Committee, SEC Baseball Committee, and
others, the Hoover Chamber is no stranger to volunteer involvement from
some of the finest professionals anywhere. The most visible group of
volunteers in the Hoover Chamber is represented by our Ambassadors,
basically goodwill ambassadors for the chamber and the City of Hoover.
This group is made up of some thirty individuals who want to use the
chamber to help fulfill many of their needs to meet other professionals
and potential business associates.
To become a Chamber Ambassador, one need only to be a current member
of the chamber, and to have the desire to get out in public by representing
the chamber at various functions of the chamber, including ribbon cuttings
for new businesses, monthly Coffee & Contacts events as well as
Business After Hours (both held at various member locations throughout
the year) and at the monthly Chamber of Commerce Luncheon - where we
average over 200 in attendance each month.
As a chamber ambassador, members are given tremendous opportunities
to meet and network with new and existing members, as well as newcomers
to the community. With these networking opportunities, they can maximize
their potential in business, as well as socially. This is also a great
stepping-stone to greater and more responsibility in the chamber and
in other business and civic organizations.
